My thoughts…

A mix is never finished, usually a continual process, with each song evolving, sometimes forever, to some degree or another.  Pure madness, but I dig it.

The Bug Song:

This started out as just a drum and synth bass groove by Darrin and Doug DeBard.  Darrin then added some lazy guitar.  Then later, Andy Vaughn, a.k.a. A-Von or Drew, dropped by and freestyled on top of it. Then Matt Zalewski, while partying with Darrin, sang some lyrics he wrote on top of that.  It turned out kinda wild,  I think… A fun song!.  It was just an improv with me and my Korg and then the Ibanez, jamming to a drum track laid down by Doug.  The lyrics were mixed in after the music.  It just had a fun feel to it and thought I would start the CD out with this song for a bit of carefree light heartedness because the rest of Arcanum gets deeper and darker as it progresses.

SirMacsAlot:

This song is dedicated to the 802.11 wireless wizards, Wardrivers, WarWalkers, Chaulkers, and hackers in the wireless community.  It’s named after the perl script, SirMacsAlot, written by Roamer and uses some of the sounds and alerts from the Kismet wireless sniffer.  I had a ball writing this song and want to thank all those wireless wizbangs that inspired me to write it.  Its a WarJam!   Lead Guitar tracks by Darin Trapp.  Enjoy!

Scarred and Bruised:

This song was written using the Korg first, then my son, Joshua DeBard, laid a drum track down to it.  I later jammed along with the Ibanez and Drew, wrote the Lyrics to it. You can ask him what he was writing about.  Hint, hint… It has something to do with his little brother.

Spirits of Silicon:

This song is an instrumental and will probably remain so.  Developed mostly on a Korg Triton Extreme.  It is heavy electronica with crunching guitar work.  It has potential as a soundtrack or cut-scene music for a computer games.  It grooves in a big way  It’s relaxing, yet danceable.  Synth work by DeBard.  Guitar by Darrin Trapp.  The Drum track is a machine but will soon be replaced with a real drum track by Doug DeBard.

Nightmare:

This song speaks of speaks of the super elite powers in this world and how they manipulate world affairs. It also addresses the “Terrorism” theme we have all become accustomed to in the news. Are these conspiratorial ideas for real?

The Original Sin:

This song rocks hard and has an attitude.  Do you hate work? We are all sentenced to labor... All generations are under a curse, by God, for the Original Sin, so why do we celebrate labor?  It’s punishment. A curse! Although one you will not break while here on earth.  If you think about it you realize just how serious God is about sin!  All generations work because Eve ate the apple, BTW, Adam helped her. If man doesn’t work neither let him eat!  I love to eat, but I still hate workin.  Musicians that participated include Doug DeBard on Drums, Kenny Bishop on Bass, and Darrin Trapp on lead guitar, and Darrin DeBard on vocals, keys, and rhythm guitar.

Let it be the Lambs:

This song is dedicated to the The King of Kings, U.S. military, the victims and their families.  May they find sweet vengence.    Who isn’t sick of the Unification and Jihad punks in Iraq that keep lopping peoples heads off?  They will get theirs!  One way or another. If revenge isn’t mans, “Let it be the Lamb’s!”  Do not fear he that can destroy the body, but fear Him who can destroy the soul! For that reason alone they better hope U.S. forces get to them first.  Musicians that participated include Doug DeBard on Drums and backing vocals, Darrin Trapp on lead guitar, and Darrin DeBard on vocals, Synth Bass, and rhythm guitars.

Dark Bleu:

This is an instrumental. It may have lyrics someday.  Maybe not.  It’s a slow dark groove that sets a strange mood, but really goes nowhere.  Sometimes going no where is a good thing.  BTW, it is “Bleu” and not “Blue”.  It just felt “Bleu” to me at the time.  Musicians that participated are Darrin Trapp on lead guitars, and Darrin DeBard on Synth’s.  I almost called it Searching for Osama – It kinda feels like that.

Liberty:

This is one I wrote about our liberties and how we should value and protect them.  I am  not a proponent of trading liberties for security either.  No one should be in my opinion.  Basically I’m is fed up with arrogant federal judges making rules that the masses obviously do not agree with... like the pledge of allegiance garbage, the same sex marriage fiasco, basically just political correctness run amuck!  I quote the likes of Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other founding fathers to make my point.

Time of the Signs:

This started out as just a groove and later I picked up a megaphone and began to regurgitate some contents of the Book of Daniel over the music.  Daniel is one my favorite Old Testament prophets.  The people today, all of us, and the things going on in the world, are signs of the times and we all are living in the time of the signs! Pay attention to what’s going on around you.

The Fly Over Zone:

This song is about how one becomes jaded (Shawn and I anyway -- hehe) while dealing with life in The Flyover Zone.  Central Indiana in this case.  My friend Shawn Merrill wrote the lyrics, and with his permission I twisted the lyrical arrangement just a bit to fit the groove.  Anyway it started with a drum track by Doug DeBard and then I sat in front of the Korg and did the rest track by track.  All improve on the Korg.  I later added some guitar tracks with the Ibanez 470 and finished up by adding the vocal tracks.

Wings Of Steed:

This song is written about the riders of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelation.  Are there 4 or 5?  Who are the first and last on the white horses.  Read up and figure it out.  Again developed mostly on a Korg Triton Extreme.  It is heavy semi-electronica with a aggressive guitar rhythms in the choruses.  Synths by Darrin DeBard and Doug DeBard on drums, and guitar leads by Darrin Trapp.
